We are living in a very confusing time, purposely confusing. And this confusion is a direct result of our society embracing the concept of relativism – the belief that there is no objective truth, that everything is subjective. But to say there is no objective truth is contradictory because it is asserting the objective truth that there is no objective truth. It is self-negating, but logic never deters people on the left. And neither does hypocrisy because as they are pushing this concept of relativism, they are also denouncing misinformation. So, on the one hand, they claim that there is no such thing as objective truth, yet when they come across someone who says something that they disagree with, they label it as misinformation, as if there is objective truth. But true relativism believes that all viewpoints, and all information are valid, so there is no such thing as misinformation.
The left’s relativism was never intended to promote the acceptance of all ideas and minority viewpoints. And it is not for the poor and downtrodden, it is precisely for the rich and powerful. It allows the powerful to hide their hypocrisy while they manipulate and crush the powerless for their own advantage. Without set standards, the powerful, those who determine the accepted narrative can pick and choose their outrage and vengeance according to how it most benefits them. The modern left have perverted concept of relativism and turned it a mechanism to force society to accept the absurd as legitimate, and cast the legitimate as absurd.
This type of ideology rears its ugly head in the gender ideology which is promoted to our children by the left – that a man can become a woman, and a woman can become a man, and that there are a myriad of genders. To these relativists, every theory on gender and sexuality is accepted, except the traditional one, the one backed by science. They claim that gender is not hardwired, even though genetically it is hardwired with “X” and “Y” chromosomes, but at the same time they claim that sexual preference, which has no evidence of genetic hardwiring, is locked in and predetermined. Strangely enough, the relativist will not allow anyone to even offer the competing narrative that sexual preference could be culturally influenced, while arguing that the concept of gender is a cultural construct, even though, the scientific evidence shows it to be a biological determined reality.
This is not to say that these people’s issues are not real, and that consenting adults should not be allowed to express themselves how they see fit. It is merely to point out that the origins, the root causes of their issues presented by the leftist ideologues are not congruent with scientific fact and logic, and we should be wary of indoctrinating our children in this type of ideology. But that does not matter to them because the left is about destroying, not protecting or reinforcing.
And who gets harmed from this? Our children. People at the most vulnerable and confusing stage of development are being spoon fed contradictory and confusing ideologies which will only serve to confuse them even more. If a person comes to a fork in the road, and doesn’t know which way to go, you do not help him out by showing him a map of 14 different ways to get to Denver. That just confuses the picture infinitely more. If a person is confused, you simplify his choices, you do not expand them. If the person ultimately wants to get it Denver, allow him to make the first choice at the fork first, and then see if he still wants to get to Denver after. Relativism is creating confusion, not clarity.
This week, the Supreme Court is hearing the case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which is challenging a Mississippi law which bans abortion after fifteen weeks post-conception. We can argue back and forth about the state’s role in protecting a woman’s right to bodily autonomy versus its obligation to protect an unborn baby’s right to continue to live. What gets lost in these debates is an unassailable scientific fact that life begins at conception, and an abortion is the willful taking of human life. If everyone accepted that scientific truth, there would be no need for a law against abortion because very few mothers would want to kill their baby, so the truth must be muddled by vague relativist concepts like, a “women’s right to choose” while ignoring a baby’s right to life. On top of that, how can this be a woman’s rights issue if there’s no such thing as gender, and therefore no such thing as a woman? So, they pick and choose their relativist ideology to assert their power, and ultimately who gets harmed? The smallest and least powerful, the unborn baby. There have been over 60 million babies aborted since Roe v Wade. And there is no outrage coming from the relativists.
Relativism has been used by the left as a weapon to exploit the powerless. The last five years, the social media giants have unevenly applied their censorship rules to their own advantage. They incessantly pushed the false Russian dossier across all of their platforms for 3 years because hurting Trump helped them. And then, blocked and censored any of the accurate information contained in Hunter Biden’s laptop, on the false grounds that it was unverified, because anything that hurt Joe Biden, hurt them. Their hypocrisy, their relativism did not help any poor or downtrodden people, it only made the rich, richer, the powerful, more powerful, the poor, poorer, and the downtrodden, more so.
These tactics are used everywhere there is power to be gained. Many of the same powerful politicians, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, who supported and cheered on the 5 months of riots that destroyed many cities throughout our country in 2020, have been wringing their hands in righteous indignation about the Capital riot on January 6th which caused a fraction of the injury and property damage that any one of the BLM/Antifa riots they supported caused. The 5 months of riots were characterized as “peaceful protests”, while the January 6 riot has been unequivocally characterized as a “violent insurrection”.
Who has been hurt the most by this obvious hypocrisy? The majority of the businesses that were looted or burned to the ground by the BLM riots were minority owned and will never be rebuilt. They lost everything. But there is no outrage, there are no Congressional Commissions to hold those accountable responsible because those riots only helped the rich and powerful Democrats in Washington. Many of the most violent and destructive rioters have never been prosecuted, or even arrested, while many at the Capital riot have been prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and beyond. Jacob Chansley is now serving 41 months in prison for the crime of trespassing at the Capital, while many of the rioters in 2020 who injured, maimed, killed, and committed acts of arson are walking free today. People living in the truth are justified to be outrage at the Capital riot, but their outrage is outside of reality if they spent the previous 5 months defending and promoting violent riots elsewhere.
We see this again in the competing narratives put out on the events in Kenosha and Waukesha. In Kenosha, Kyle Rittenhouse was a 17-year-old kid who acted in self-defense against people who were intent on killing him during a violent riot. But without any evidence, Rittenhouse was painted as a white supremacist vigilante to push the left’s narrative that all white people are racist. The story consumed our news cycle for over a year and a half.
While in Waukesha, Darryl Brooks, a black man whose social media accounts are filled with BLM and anti-white racist posts, intentionally ran over a parade of people celebrating Christmas, killing 8, including children, all were white, but the collective outrage coming from the left and the Democrats is non-existent. This act of black on white hate crime has become a non-story. Some in the media have even characterized this man swerving his car to intentionally run over children as an “accident”. Why? Because a black person acting racist by committing a hate crime does not fit their narrative, does not gin up their voting base, and will cause potential voters to question the liberal narrative on race, so the story and the victims must be ignored.
The most destructive and oppressive relativism is what is on display in our country today, the ability to switch back and forth between objectivity and subjectivity to serve individual aims. If there are no standards, no objective truth, then we will be thrown into an intellectual anarchy. It is completely selfish and destructive to promote anarchy when it serves your purpose, and then stand for law and order when it serves your purpose. To the left, everything is about winning the narrative, and not about finding the truth, the living reality.
Objectivity holds everybody to the same standard regardless of wealth or power or status or political affiliation. Objectivity gives the powerless a chance to compete and even overcome the powerful because they are put on the same footing as the powerful, while relativism allows the powerful to use their power to manipulate the rules to tilt the playing field to their advantage over the powerless. Relativism is oppressive while objectivity is freeing.
